Ukraine Reports Destruction of Russian Ship in Crimea Attack amid Russia-Ukraine War

Ukrainian Air Force Destroys Russian Navy Ship Carrying Drones

In a targeted attack, the Ukrainian air force has reportedly destroyed the Novocherkassk, a large landing ship belonging to the Russian navy at a base in Russian-occupied Crimea. The attack was carried out in response to Kyiv’s claim that the ship was transporting drones for use in Russia’s war efforts.

The overnight Ukrainian airstrike resulted in the destruction of the Novocherkassk, with Russia’s Ministry of Defence confirming the attack and stating that the ship was damaged after guided missiles were launched against it in the Crimean port city of Feodosia. According to reports, one person was killed and two others were injured in the attack, and several buildings were damaged, leading to the evacuation of residents.

The Ukrainian Air Force has accused the Novocherkassk of transporting Iranian explosive drones, known as Shaheds, which Russia has previously used to attack Ukraine. Ukrainian commander Mykola Oleshchuk also shared a video of the explosion at the Russian naval base in Feodosia, celebrating the success of the attack.

This incident adds to the ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, following Russia’s seizure and annexation of Crimea in 2014. Both countries have a history of exaggerating losses and downplaying casualties and equipment losses.

The recent attack on the Novocherkassk comes amidst conflicting claims from both sides, with Moscow asserting control over the eastern city of Maryinka and Ukraine denying it. Additionally, in April 2022, Ukraine sank the cruiser Moskva, the Soviet-era flagship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, in a separate naval incident.

Despite the conflicting narratives, the destruction of the Novocherkassk marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The incident highlights the continued tensions and hostilities between the two nations, as they remain locked in a bitter struggle for control and dominance in the region.

As the situation continues to unfold, the world watches closely, as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia shows no signs of abating.
