Police say robbers attempted carjacking and committed at least 3 armed robberies overnight using silver vehicles

Armed robbers used a silver-colored vehicle during multiple carjacking attempts and armed crimes reported throughout Chicago overnight, according to the Chicago Police Department. While police have not confirmed a direct link between the incidents, they have noted that the perpetrators in each case utilized a silver sedan or SUV.

The most recent incident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, where a 65-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were targeted in their vehicle by four armed males who exited a silver SUV. The man, who possessed a concealed carry license, fired shots at the robbers in defense, but unfortunately missed. One of the robbers returned fire, striking the woman in the chest and grazing the man in the calf. Both victims were transported to the West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park and are currently listed in good condition.

Prior to this incident, at around 4:25 a.m., a man in the Logan Square neighborhood was approached by four armed robbers in a silver sedan, who demanded his belongings and subsequently struck him in the head. Additionally, around 4 a.m. in a separate incident, a man was accosted by three armed robbers in a silver sedan in the 2200 block of North Springfield Avenue, where he was also struck in the head before the perpetrators fled the scene.

Further reports indicate that at approximately 3:15 a.m., a man utilizing an ATM drive-thru on South Damen Avenue was targeted by four armed robbers in a silver sedan who demanded his belongings and subsequently assaulted him.

As of now, no suspects are in custody for these violent crimes, and investigations are ongoing.

Historically, carjacking and armed robberies have been ongoing issues in urban areas like Chicago. Authorities have continuously sought to address these criminal activities through increased police presence and targeted law enforcement efforts.
