“15 Must-Try Chicago Burritos: From Overloaded West Coast Styles to Traditional Bites from Northern Mexico”

One can learn a lot about a person by the way they order a burrito. Some prefer to add every possible ingredient in the kitchen, while others prefer to keep it simple with just a few key components. These preferences can reveal a person’s background, and even where they have lived. I have learned that burrito perfection varies from person to person. When I compiled a list of my favorite burritos in 2017, I discovered that many restaurants in the northern Mexican states offer minimalist burritos, with minimal fills. This sparked a lot of controversy, with many people complaining that they preferred burritos that were stuffed to the breaking point with every conceivable filling. After extensive research, I’ve come to appreciate the subtle differences in burrito styles. Despite these differences, there are some standards that I believe make a great burrito, regardless of what a person may like inside. I challenged myself to sample 50 different burritos over the course of a month and broke down the results into three categories. This gave me a better understanding of burrito styles that are best suited for different people. I also discovered that Chicago has its own unique style of burrito, which typically includes refried pinto beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and sour cream. Although I was initially against the inclusion of lettuce, I’ve grown to appreciate what it can add to a burrito. I sampled several Chicago-style burritos and got a better understanding of their unique characteristics. I also learned that there is a growing popularity of West Coast-style burritos, with unorthodox fillings such as french fries. I took this opportunity to sample several California burritos and found them to be unique and delicious. As a result, I now have a much better appreciation for the various styles of burritos available.
