Entertainment Highlights for January 28th

SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare’s Annual Playing for Paws Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, March 18 at Woodside Country Club, 1000 Woodside Drive. The 18-hole, four-person scramble tournament will kick off with a shotgun start at noon, and registration opens at 10:30 a.m. Those interested can sign up as an individual for $125 or as a group of four for $500. Applications are now available for the 2024-2025 Martha Schofield Scholarship, an honor for high-achieving students of color who have a demonstrated financial need and graduated from an Aiken County Public School District High School. Applicants must also be the direct descendant of an alumna or employee of Martha Schofield High School. The deadline for applications is March 8, and they can be found at 223 Park Ave. S.E., Aiken SC 29801.

This spring, Aiken County Parks, Registration and Tourism will offer a PowderPuff Flag Football League for girls in ninth through 12th grades. Registration is required, and interested participants should visit Harrison-Caver Park, 4181 Augusta Road, Clearwater, between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additionally, Aiken County Parks, Registration and Tourism will also have a Lacrosse League this spring, open to co-ed teams for ages 8 through high school. Leagues will be divided into 10U, 12U, and high school ages, and the cost is $40 per participant. Registration will take place at Harrison-Caver Park, and the deadline is Friday, Feb. 2. Furthermore, the City of Aiken Parks, Registration and Tourism, in collaboration with the Aiken Futbol Club, will offer Recreation Soccer this spring. Evaluations will be in mid-February, practices in March, and games starting April 15. Aiken County boys choir Bound to Sing will hold open auditions/practices at 4 p.m. on Monday at the music rehearsal room of Aiken’s First Baptist Church, 120 Chesterfield St. N. The choir is open to boys in third through eighth grades and is led by Dr. Matt Caine, choir director at St. John’s United Methodist Church. The Aiken Beekeepers will offer an introduction to beekeeping course from 6-8 p.m. beginning Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2274 Whiskey Road. The course meets for five Tuesdays and will include a field day in March. The cost is $70 per person, and pre-registration is required.

Moreover, various support groups and activities are available throughout the week, including the Awesome Aiken Al-Anon group, Nar-Anon Aiken For Comfort Family Group, Celebrate Recovery, and the Depression Anxiety Bipolar Support Group.
