Guilford welcomes new Androscoggin Bank business office

Androscoggin Bank Opens Business Development Office in Guilford

Androscoggin Bank, based in Lewiston, has established a business development office in Guilford, located in the former Guilford Medical Building. This office will be accessible by appointment at least once a week, starting on January 22nd. The bank aims to offer various services including treasury and government deposit, commercial and government financing, and wealth management, among others.

At a ribbon cutting ceremony held on January 18th, Neil Kiely, President and CEO of Androscoggin Bank, expressed excitement about the new business office and highlighted the bank’s strong Government and Commercial Banking capabilities, which they plan to bring to Piscataquis County to benefit the local community.

The building has been renamed the CH Lightbody Municipal Center, in memory of Dr. CH Lightbody, a long-time local physician and community member. The Guilford Select Board chose this name to reflect the facility’s new usage.

The town of Guilford intends to establish a business development hub to support the local business community. In addition to Androscoggin Bank, the Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC) will send staff once a week to meet with local businesses seeking to grow and develop. EMDC provides business planning and small business lending expertise and will now bring these services directly to Piscataquis County.

Lee Umphrey, President of EMDC, mentioned that they are pleased to join Androscoggin Bank in this initiative and that they plan to partner with the Town of Guilford to develop a comprehensive economic strategy for growth.

Furthermore, the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council and the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce also expressed their support for the new business development hub and intend to play a role in the center’s activities.

The region has a longstanding need for economic assistance, as Piscataquis County has consistently maintained a low median household income and a high unemployment rate. The town manager, Johanna Turner, believes that by working together, Guilford and Piscataquis County can grow and become more prosperous.

Androscoggin Bank’s Business Office will be staffed each Monday by John Simko of Greenville and Angie Snow of Dover-Foxcroft. Simko, who is the bank’s director of government banking, brings with him valuable experience having previously served as the town manager of Greenville and Sangerville and president of the PCEDC. Snow, a treasury analyst, will also be joining the bank’s Government Banking team.

Headquartered in Lewiston, Androscoggin Bank has been independent for over 150 years. In 2021, Androscoggin Bank became a Certified B Corporation, emphasizing their commitment to serving the communities they operate in. The bank looks forward to working with their partners to support the region and has invested over $340,000 in philanthropic donations, grants, and sponsorships throughout Maine last year.

Overall, these efforts aim to revitalize the local economy and empower Maine’s business owners to improve their financial lives. Androscoggin Bank is dedicated to helping Maine communities thrive and looks forward to contributing to the economic growth of the state.
