After outcry, Brighton makes more tweaks to parking reservations plan

Starting December 14, 2023, Brighton Ski Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon has announced that weekday reservations for parking will no longer be required, except on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays until 1 p.m.

This decision comes after the resort implemented a mandatory parking reservation system at the beginning of the season, leading to feedback from guests who expressed a desire for more flexibility and decreased cost on weekdays. Brighton spokesperson Jared Winkler emphasized the resort’s commitment to offering convenient and flexible options for its visitors.

The parking reservations will continue to cost $20, but they are free for vehicles with three or more passengers and for certain Brighton season pass holders. Guests with reservations for weekdays outside of peak holiday dates will have their reservation canceled and will be refunded the parking fee.

Despite some pushback from the community about the reservation system, the resort has announced plans to release more parking spots each Sunday at 6 p.m. for the following weekend. Additionally, parking may become available at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. the day prior, and more spots may come online until 7 a.m. on each weekend day.

Sections of the Town of Brighton will also implement parking reservations, with a cost of $10 per day, required from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Historic background of the topic can be traced back to the increasing demand for parking over the past 10 years, eventually leading to the implementation of a reservation system. The resort also plans to begin night skiing and riding on Fridays, with lifts running until 9 p.m.

For visitors planning to ski or snowboard at Brighton, this change will provide more flexibility and convenience when it comes to parking reservations, particularly on weekdays. Despite the initial challenges, the resort aims to accommodate the needs and preferences of its guests while managing the increasing demand for parking.
